You know you’re on to something when you’re customers do the marketing for you.  Coca-Cola scored a home run with one of their recent campaigns in Australia.  They were struggling to make sales in the region so they needed to make a big splash.

They came up with a very creative way to get people talking about their product and it went viral.  As a result, they were able to sit back and watch the Facebook ‘like’s pile up.  Coke obviously had lots of resources at their disposal to make this happen but there are some lessons to be learned:

  • If you want to get your message across, talk WITH your customers not AT them
  • Creativity is key when you’re trying to make a splash with social media, begging for ‘likes’ just won’t cut it
  • Have a defined strategy and go big, viral movements need  a kick-start in the beginning
