All good things must come to an end or do they? Content curation is all the rage in 2012 but can its momentum last in perpetuity?
There are a number of social curation websites out there right now including Paperli, Svpply, Mlkshk and the heavyweight in the room, Pinterest. Like any web trend, there are multiple players trying to break in to this emerging market. Unlike social networks, there is an opportunity for more than one big time curation site to succeed.
Social networks like Facebook are intended to bring people together from all walks of life and unite them. Alternatively, the social curation sites that are doing very well only focus on a niche audience. Pinterest appeals primarily to women, Gentlemint is for men.
For Facebook to succeed, the other networks generally have to fail because they want everyone under one tent. For social curators, having lots of tents is just fine. Since these sites cater to a specific niche, they aren’t mutually exclusive. Wherever there is a passionate community, a social curation site can succeed.
