The best way to serve your audience is by being useful. Ben Elowitz, CEO of WetPaint talks about how they’ve test both approaches independently and found that a mix of content is always preferred.
2. Successful curation is part science, part heart
A big theme coming out the SXSW forum on curation is highlighting why it’s different than aggregation. Aggregation is a mechanical process, curation requires the human touch. The best curators see all of the information out there but do an above average job distilling the good stuff.
3. Curation has been around for a long time but never organized
Sharing interesting information has been around for a long time. The avalanche of buzz around curating this year has a lot to do with the information tipping point. This is the point where everyone took a step back and looked at how out of control the amount of data available has gotten. Finally, people are asking for a way to cut out the waste and organize the best material effectively. Thus, the rise of curation.
